Patrick Egan is out on bail. Reportedly, a single individual posted his $20k bond. It’s not clear who bonded Egan out, but it’s likely a local veteran’s group. Egan is accused of assaulting a local reporter on December 18th. Egan is being charged with a Biased-Motivated.
According to people close to the case the District Attorney’s office failed to notify the victim that Egan had bonded out of the jail and was at liberty in our community.
The Colorado Crime Victim Act is pretty clear that victims of violent crimes like Egan’s are to be notified to any changes to the custody status of the perpetrator. Why this wasn’t done in this case, that has made national headlines, is anyone’s guess. Maliciousness or incompetence? Either way this is unacceptable.
