The Grand Junction Police Department has been featured in a viral video on the Youtube channel, Audit the Audit, titled “This Female Cop Messed up BIG TIME! Massive Lawsuit Incoming!” After getting over the sexist title, it breaks down an illegal police stop endemic of the city’s war on the unhoused. Most striking was the serious lack of knowledge of state and local law, including the new city law that bans camping.
Garco School Votes In Anti-trans Resolution
On February 26, the Garfield County School District RE-2 voted to adopt a resolution that would require the schools to inform parents if a student asks to be identified by a different name. The resolution passed 4 to 1.
Mesa County Contracts with PR Firms Linked to Musk
In mid-February, Mesa County entered into a contract with EIS Solutions, also known as the 76 Group, for consultation, lobbying and public relations services. EIS solutions is part of the influence-peddling empire of Grand Junction’s golden child, Josh Penry. Penry’s firms were the number one recipient of money from Elon Musk’s America PAC in the 2024 election cycle. Larkin Skips Town, West Springs Hospital Closed March 10
After the Board of Directors of Mindsprings Mental Health voted unanimously to not contract with ICE, Larkin Health Solutions have decided to leave town. This makes it seem like Larkin only agreed to take on management of Mindsprings and their West Springs Hospital with the hopes of working with ICE. The Rev broke the story about ICE and Mindsprings negotiations on our website back in January.
21 DOGE Staffers Resign in Protest
Twenty-one staffers at the quasi-governmental agency, the Department of Governmental Efficiency, resigned in protest. In the letter delivered to the White House, staffers state that their oaths to the constitution were at odds with the work they were doing at DOGE. “We will not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government systems, jeopardize America’s sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services.”
Deportations Slow Under Trump Regime
Reuters is reporting that the Trump Administration deported roughly 37,000 people in his first month in office. Biden averaged 57,000 deportations per month. Much of the ICE raids conducted have been more hype and PR than reality. They are working on expanding their capacity, and increases should be expected in the future.
SpaceX Pulls Out of Mesa County
A proposed SpaceX facility near De Beque raised concerns and protests from nearby residents. A petition was circulated online. Then, on February 19, SpaceX sent a letter to Mesa County withdrawing their applications, giving no reason.
City of GJ Says Quiet Part Out Loud
In a recent story by KJCT, Ashley Chambers makes clear that the City of Grand Junction “[has] never built affordable housing as a city ever. We are not even building this housing. We are just laying the groundwork for affordable housing to be built.”
Citizens Organize to Oppose Plastics Recycling Center
A proposed Plastics Recycling east of Fruita was met with organized pushback from locals in the area. A rowdy meeting was ended early and the company has since decided to relocate their facility.
Police Killings in 2024 Sets New Record
According to the Gun Violence Archive, 1445 people were killed by the police in the United States in 2024, and another 806 were injured. Police killings have been steadily rising since 2017.
