The United States is in turmoil. With the election of Donald Trump, the forces of fascism and tyranny are rearing their ugly heads. Trump and his goons are set on dismantling the few genuinely democratic institutions that we still have in this country. At such critical turning points in history, we have only two options; fight back or be crushed.
But we cannot simply fight to return America to the old status quo. The contradictions and failures of the old order led directly to the state of affairs that we see today. We must not only fight to preserve the few democratic institutions that we have left; we must fight to transform every aspect of our society.
If we don’t extirpate root and branch the conditions which allowed for the rise of fascism, we won’t be able to guarantee its defeat. We must fight against Trump and the world he wants to build, and we must fight for a new, genuinely democratic, socialist republic.
All over the country, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is fighting for such a world. Our 2024 National Platform outlines in detail what we need to do and how we need to do it. Our local chapter’s Points of Unity outline the immediate tasks of our chapter in regards to the conditions prevailing in western Colorado.
The DSA is by far the largest socialist organization in the United States, and we have been using our numbers to build independent working class power all across the country.
The Mesa County chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, though it is less than a year old, has seen rapid growth and progress. We have been working day and night to build strong community bonds and establish ourselves as a bastion of working class political power in Mesa County. We are fighting back, and with the help of like-minded socialists we can win, both here and everywhere.
If you believe that a better world is possible, that a more democratic and equitable world is possible, a world in which human lives take precedent over profit and no one is left behind, then join us.
