Starting Somewhere: Community Organizing For Socially Awkward People Who Have Had Enough” by Roderick Douglass is a two-hundred-page, easy reading, guerilla guide to getting things done.

Drawing on years of activism, robin-hood-esque derring-do, academic sources, and radical histories Rodrick takes readers on a very human journey disguised as a how-to manual. That is of course not to say that “Starting Somewhere” isn’t packed with information for revolutionists of all levels of experience, because it is. From protest safety, how to have meetings, build community, supply lists, and the importance of saying “no,” the information is timely, accurate, and needed now more than ever.

Funny, irreverent, radical, and at times touchingly sad, this fast paced book pays homage to Abbie Hoffman’s counter culture classic: “Steal This Book.” In many ways “Starting Somewhere,” is an update to Hoffman’s work; picking up where he left off.

Revolutionaries, outlaws, organizers of all stripes, outcasts, agitators, misfits, and scatterlings will learn something from this book and should give it a read.

Published by Truth is Publishing, it can be purchased digitally for $7.99 on Kindle and in hard copy for $15 from Amazon.com.
