A disturbing trend has emerged in the past two week in Western Colorado.

Yesterday, Feb. 26, at 8:45am a man was taken by ICE agents immediately outside of the Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs.

According to the immigrant activists behind the Are Saucedo Reporta Facebook page, who have spoken with the detained persons’ wife, the detained person saw the officers that arrested him inside the courtroom, and the agents followed him out of the courthouse and arrested him in the courthouse parking lot. By 4pm the person was transported to the GEO group concentration camp in Aurora.

This is especially troubling because last April, Chief Justice John Neiley issued a rather somber Administrative Order reminding ICE, HSI, and ERO agents that Colorado law forbids civil arrests in and around Colorado courthouses, and if they persist, they would be charged with contempt of court.

This order followed months of reported ICE activity in and around the Courthouse in Glenwood Springs and was only issued after volunteers with the Colorado Rapid Response Network caught Immigration enforcement on camera.

In Grand Junction, on Feb. 17, Voces Unidas confirmed that a person was taken into custody after leaving the Mesa County Courthouse at 125 N. Spruce ST. According to family they were followed and taken during a fake traffic stop.

Then on Feb. 20 Colorado Rapid Response Network confirmed that another person was kidnapped near the Courthouse. Unreleased photos show agents operating out of the parking lot between the courthouse and the Mesa County Annex building.

Then again on Feb. 24 a couple leaving the Mesa County courthouse was followed by ICE agents and pulled over a short distance away from the courthouse. One person was kidnapped.

Colorado state law C.R.S. § 13-1-401 prohibits ICE arrests in and around courthouses or while traveling to and from courthouses.

Chief Justice Anne Norrdin of Colorado’s 9th Judicial District (Glenwood Springs) can be contacted via telephone: (970) 928-3065. Please respectfully let him know that Colorado law is being violated at his courthouse in his jurisdiction and in violation of the Administrative Order issued in April of 2025.

Chief Justice Brain Flynn of Colorado’s 21st Judicial District (Grand Junction) can be contacted via telephone: 970-257-3666. Please respectfully inform him that Colorado law is being violated in an around his courthouse.
